Royal Copenhagen’s Christmas plate from 2001 is entitled Watching the birds, which has been has been inspired by one of the special traditions of winter and Christmas. Most creatures in the northern latitudes have trouble finding food in the winter when the ground is frozen. This is why it is a special custom in many homes to feed nature’s many birds and animals. The plate shows a little girl in a cosy sitting room with her cat, looking out of the Christmas decorated window at the birds. The winter darkness has fallen, and all is peaceful.
