Grand Seiko ‘Atera Valley’ SLGA025 Spring Drive Watch

This timepiece features a new pressed dial pattern inspired by the Shinshu area – where all Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches are handcrafted by Takumi artisans.

The mountains are lined by deep lush valleys flowing through the Kiso district of Nagano prefecture, where the Atera River splits the Atera Valley – a running stream giving life to floral and fauna amongst the rocky terrain.

The vivid emerald green and deep green of the design combines in the first Grand Seiko gradation dial since 1989, within an Evolution 9 high-intensity titanium case, the dual-curve sapphire crystal glass showcases silver-coloured hour and minute hands. This watch, created in E9 style, represents a Grand Seiko design evolution from its heritage 1967 44GS model with nine modernisations made in aesthetics, legibility and comfort. The classic Japanese theme of interplay between light and shadow echoes the original on its hairline and Zaratsu-polished surfaces.

The exhibition case back showcases the in-house Spring Drive 9RA2 movement, only 11.8mm in depth, accurate to +/- 0.5 seconds per day with a power reserve of five days.

Spring Drive is a uniquely accurate watch movement, powered by a main spring with a regulator but without an escapement; combining the beauty of the mechanical watch and the precision of electronic timekeeping. Spring Drive powered timepieces mark the smooth passing of time with their lack of juddering tick – designed to emulate the natural progression of one moment into the next.

Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted in Japan by Takumi
