WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE: The TUDOR Black Bay Dark.
TUDOR once again show their unparalleled expertise in watchmaking with the Black Bay Dark. In this blog post, we will explore what makes the TUDOR Black Bay Dark so distinctive.
The best place to start is with its obvious main feature: the PVD case and bracelet. So what exactly is PVD, (Physical Vapour Disposition)?
This is the process where a material is combined with plasma form particles that are ionised with a surface to alter it. This creates a film that makes the surface highly durable and virtually impossible to scratch or deteriorate. This impressive process is based on technology developed by NASA for their space missions.
The case is a 41 mm matt black, bead-blasted finish. This offering from TUDOR is all about the quality finish. The bead-blast finish is produced by the impact of a hard, inert medium onto the surface which results in non-directional uniform matt finish with a soft satin reflection and low reflectivity.
The outcome, without sounding like a scientist, is the clean, consistent, streak-free finish. On PVD, this finish is essential.
Colour is an especially important part of design. It must engage with the overall features and benefits. Whilst black is a neutral colour, there are many shades of black without it transforming to grey. TUDOR have chosen dark black. This means the quality of the PVD has to be exceptional. The technical process of applying the PVD ensures that there is no chance of the steel base metal colour revealing itself in years to come.
